Verdict: Recommended, with a food-and-beverage caveat
Best For: Central Florida golfers who want elevation and a recently rebuilt course at a fair daily rate
Avoid If: You expect full dining service mid-round, or flat Florida golf.

Legends is another name that belongs to half the country. This review covers Legends Golf & Country Club in Clermont, Florida, not the Legends courses in Temecula, California or Prior Lake, Minnesota.
This course has a better story than most. It closed in 2018, and the neighborhood association bought it in 2020 for $750,000, then spent roughly $2 million on a rebuild. I did not play it for this review, so I am working from local news, Troon, GolfPass and the club’s own site.
My Legends Golf Club review comes down to this: unusual hills for Florida, a solid rating from thousands of players, and thin food service. Compare it with other Florida stops in our Florida course reviews.

What I Liked
- Real elevation. The club advertises drops of up to 300 feet and views stretching about eight miles. In central Florida that is almost a different sport.
- Fresh greens and bunkers. The $2 million rebuild reportedly covered all the greens, the bunkers, and about 40 acres of new turf.
- Strong scores for layout and friendliness. GolfPass reviewers give layout 4.5 and friendliness 4.6 out of 5, with 88.9 percent saying they would recommend it.
- A rare ownership story. Residents saved their own course. That tends to make a club care about conditioning, because the owners play there.
- Easy to walk into. You do not need a membership to book a round, and GPS carts are standard.
What I Didn’t Like
- Food and beverage is thin. Reviewers mention limited options and no mid-round refreshments. Eat before you go or bring snacks.
- Conditions are inconsistent. GolfPass users score conditions 3.9 and amenities 3.8, the weakest categories. Several mention uneven fairways and rough.
- Pace can drag. One reviewer wanted more rangers on the course.
- Mixed information online. Address and rating details differ between Troon, GolfPass and the club site, and one real estate blog claims two different courses and $300-$400 monthly dues. That contradicts every reliable source, and I ignored it.
Membership & Fees
Legends does not publish full golf membership fees. The club site says memberships are available and promotes a Players Card. It lists no initiation, no dues, and no card price that I could confirm. Its memberships page does post two annual range memberships, $500 single and $700 family, described as limited in number, and says the club is accepting new members.
The club’s own rates page posts no prices and points you to its online tee sheet. One third-party aggregator shows green fees of $70 on weekdays and $80 on weekends. I cannot tell you when that was last updated, so treat it as a rough marker for what a daily-fee round costs. Prices on Central Florida courses swing with season, and the live tee sheet is the only reliable source.
To judge a membership offer against paying as you go, check what American Golf Clubs Actually Disclose and ask the club whether a Players Card changes your rate. Legends also sits between a public course and a private club, which our explainer on the difference between a country club and a golf club covers.
Facilities & Amenities
- Golf: 18 holes with Bermuda grass, and the club says it has a koi pond at the 9th tee.
- Practice: driving range, putting green and chipping green, plus lessons.
- Food: restaurant and bar, though reviewers want more mid-round options.
- Other: pro shop, banquet space, and GPS carts.
The thing that interested me most is the ownership structure. A homeowners association owns it, which is a more unusual arrangement than most daily-fee courses. Troon lists the course in its directory, but I could not confirm from Troon, the club site or local news who runs it day to day, so ask before you assume a management company is involved.
Best Time to Visit
Fall through spring is the comfortable stretch for central Florida golf. Heat and afternoon storms are common from June through September, and a morning tee time dodges most of both.
Bermuda grass grows through the warm months and goes quieter in winter. I could not find a club-specific note on seasonal pricing, so ask when you book.
Dress Code & Etiquette
The club’s code is clear: collared shirts are required. Denim, gym shorts, sweat pants, T-shirts and other casual wear are not allowed.
Keep an eye on pace. If reviewers are right about too few rangers, your group sets the tone for the group behind you.
Who Is This Club For?
This club is a good fit if you want hills and views without flying to the mountains. The dramatic elevation is the main draw.
This club is a good fit if you live in Clermont and want a nearby course with local ownership. A rebuilt course also gives you a reason to give it a second look.
Skip this one if you expect a full clubhouse meal mid-round, or if you demand tournament-level consistency from tee to green.

Verdict & Score
GCR Score: 4.0 / 5 – Recommended
A 4.2 average from more than 2,000 GolfPass reviews tells you the layout works. The rebuild and local ownership are encouraging, though I could not verify current rates or management. Thin food service and inconsistent fairways keep it at four.

Author Note
Resident buyouts of failing courses are rare, which is why this one earned a full review. I have not played Legends, and these details come from Troon, the club’s website, Spectrum News 13 and GolfPass. Our scoring method is on the review methodology page linked above.
