Recommended for affordable, social golf in south-west Sydney

GCR Score: 4.1 / 5
Verdict: Recommended for affordable, social golf in south-west Sydney
Best For: Mid-handicappers, social groups, weekday players, and value seekers
Think Twice If: You need weekend morning access or dislike long, uphill par fours
Last Reviewed: 2 July 2026

Cabramatta does not ease you into the round. The first climbs for 375 metres, and the third stretches to 435 metres into the prevailing wind. This Cabramatta Golf Club review explains why the self-described social club still asks serious golf questions.

The blue layout measures about 5,878 metres and plays to par 70, with scratch 72 and slope 127. Water, mature trees, doglegs, and long approaches provide more resistance than the friendly branding suggests.

Visitors pay A$45 on weekdays, A$30 after 2.30pm, and A$50 on weekends. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday provide all-day social access.

That is a strong south-west Sydney offer. The main catch is weekend social play beginning after 3pm.

Course Overview

Cabramatta is an undulating parkland course where position matters from the opening drive. The land first became a golf course in 1939.

The original Cabramatta County layout occupied part of a 98-acre property. Today’s course adds mature corridors, water features, and several demanding changes in elevation.

Golf NSW confirms regular competition and seven-day social access after fields. The club hosts the Cabramatta Cup, Major Pennants, and corporate days.

Our key takeaway: the “most social” label describes the welcome, not the difficulty.

Course Design and Standout Holes

Cabramatta begins with one of the tougher opening stretches in its part of Sydney. The course asks for shape and distance immediately.

The 375-metre first climbs throughout. Road trouble sits right, bunkers wait left, and the uphill approach plays longer than its number.

The 353-metre second bends right and rewards position over power. A drive through the corner can block the approach despite travelling well.

The 435-metre third is the sternest early test. It doglegs left and can become nearly unreachable in two into the prevailing wind. The right side opens the second shot.

The sequence warns first-time visitors against chasing distance. Accepting one bogey can prevent three holes of damage.

Green Fees and Visitor Access

Cabramatta offers straightforward public pricing and excellent weekday access. Call the golf shop before arriving.

2026 Option Price Notes
Weekday 18 holes A$45 Before 2.30pm
Weekday twilight A$30 After 2.30pm
Weekend 18 holes A$50 After 3pm
Weekday special A$120 Two players plus motorised buggy
Student weekday A$24 Valid student identification required
Motorised buggy A$50 Reserve ahead
Club set plus pull buggy A$25 Subject to availability

Monday, Tuesday, and Friday allow social golf all day. Wednesday starts after 1pm, Thursday after noon, and public holidays after 1pm.

Saturday and Sunday social times start after 3pm. That is useful for twilight golfers but poor for visitors wanting a weekend morning.

Course Conditions

Cabramatta generally presents lush fairways and well-kept greens, but weather changes its character. Kikuyu and couch fairways can grab the club when damp.

The putting surfaces use bent grass and tend to provide the best part of the presentation. Water features and lower areas require care after prolonged Sydney rain.

Recent app-based golfer feedback rates condition positively and describes the greens as quick. Treat that as a current theme, not a guarantee for every date.

Call after heavy rain to confirm cart rules. The course is walkable, but its hills make a wet carry more tiring than the scorecard suggests.

Membership and Annual Subscriptions

No photo description available.

Cabramatta includes social green fees and a GA handicap in playing membership. Its current page leaves full and midweek prices blank, so confirm those two figures in writing.

Category Published Annual Fee Access
Full Confirm with office Seven days; A$500 joining fee
Midweek Confirm with office Monday–Friday
Emergency services A$1,250 Full playing rights, no vote
Country A$900 20 competition games; outside 50km

Each listed adult category includes A$100 bar credit. Instalments are available, with a A$20 charge for each half-yearly or quarterly transaction.

Members pay A$19 for competitions, compared with A$45 for visitors. Full members should compare the written annual quote against roughly 35 public rounds before joining.

GA Handicap at Cabramatta

The blue markers carry scratch 72 and slope 127 against par 70. That two-shot gap reflects the demanding longer holes.

White markers measure about 5,663 metres, with scratch 70.5 and slope 126. The red women’s course is approximately 5,306 metres, scratch 74.7 and slope 134.

A male GA 18 golfer receives about 20 shots from blue markers. The opening stretch can spend several before the round settles.

Pennant and Competition Golf

Cabramatta has an active competition and pennant programme. Club competitions run Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays.

The course hosts Major Pennants and the Cabramatta Cup. Golf NSW’s 2025 Master Pennant results also recorded a Cabramatta player unbeaten in Metropolitan Division 1.

That makes the club a credible option for competitive golfers. Ask the match committee which current teams fit your handicap and availability.

Reciprocal Rights

Cabramatta publishes one of the broader reciprocal lists in this price range. Many partners grant full rights with no game limit.

NSW examples include Club Catalina, Dubbo, Forbes, Kurri Kurri, Merewether, Taree, Toronto, and Toukley. Other partners offer 50% or 60% green fees.

Carry proof of Cabramatta membership. Reciprocal players may enter the daily competition but cannot win medals, championships, or honour-board events.

Facilities

Cabramatta covers the essentials for practice, dining, and group golf. Its social identity is strongest after the round.

  • Practice: warm-up nets, chipping green, and putting green
  • Golf shop: bookings, lessons, clubs, pull buggies, and motorised buggies
  • Dining: the 19th Hole Restaurant and licensed bar
  • Functions: rooms for roughly 50, 60, or 200 people
  • Events: corporate golf and social packages

Best Time to Visit

April through May and September through November are ideal. Mild western Sydney weather makes the hills easier to walk.

Winter mornings can begin below 10°C but often become clear and dry. Summer afternoons regularly pass 30°C.

The A$30 weekday twilight fee is tempting, but late summer heat can linger after 2.30pm. Carry water and sun protection.

How to Get There

Cabramatta sits near the Cumberland Highway, about 35 kilometres south-west of Sydney CBD. Driving usually takes 45–60 minutes outside peaks.

Liverpool is roughly seven kilometres away. Cabramatta and Liverpool stations connect with local transport, but driving is easier with golf gear. Parking is available.

Dress Code

Dress code level: Moderate. Wear neat golf clothing and enclosed shoes. Soft spikes are the safe choice.

Avoid singlets, thongs, dirty workwear, offensive graphics, and torn clothing. Competition entrants should wear a collared shirt and traditional golf bottoms.

Cabramatta uses a moderate neat-golf standard. Wear a collared shirt, golf shorts or trousers, and enclosed shoes. Avoid singlets, thongs, torn clothing, offensive graphics, and dirty workwear. Competition players should follow the firmer traditional standard in the current fixture book.

How difficult is Cabramatta Golf Club?

The blue course measures about 5,878 metres, plays to par 70, and carries scratch 72 with slope 127. Long uphill holes, mature trees, water, and doglegs create the difficulty. The 435-metre third can be nearly unreachable in regulation into the prevailing wind.

Does Cabramatta Golf Club hire carts and clubs?

Yes. A motorised buggy costs A$50, a pull buggy costs A$6, and a hire-club set with pull buggy costs A$25. Reserve equipment through the golf shop, especially for weekend twilight and group bookings. Wet weather can restrict motorised buggy use.

Pros and Cons

What We Liked

  • Clear A$45 weekday and A$30 twilight fees
  • All-day social access on three weekdays
  • Strategic, demanding opening stretch
  • Active pennant and competition culture
  • Extensive reciprocal network

What Could Be Better

  • Weekend social golf starts after 3pm
  • Current full and midweek subs are blank online
  • Hills can make wet rounds tiring
  • Long early par fours punish slow starts

Final Verdict

Cabramatta Golf Club earns 4.1 out of 5. Its fees, weekday access, and competitive depth create excellent local value.

Late weekend access is the obvious compromise. The difficult opening holes also make it less beginner-friendly than the social branding implies.

Choose Cabramatta for affordable regular golf. Choose Bankstown when conditioning and premium facilities justify extra cost.
