GCR Score: 4.4 / 5
Verdict: Recommended for private-club presentation and 27-hole variety without private access
Best For: Condition-focused golfers, repeat visitors, learners, and northwest Chicago residents
Avoid If: A $105 weekend round with cart feels too high for park-district golf
Last Reviewed: July 3, 2026
Schaumburg resembles a premium country club from the Tournament fourth. Water, white bunkers, and a prairie-style clubhouse fill the view. The scorecard says public park district. This Schaumburg Golf Club review explains why both impressions are accurate.
The facility has three distinct nines: Tournament, Baer, and Player’s. Different pairings produce par-71 or par-72 rounds from roughly 6,300 to 6,550 yards at the back.
Conditioning earns unusually consistent praise, including from current 2026 golfers. Price creates the debate. Weekend walking costs $85, and the $20 cart lifts a standard round to $105.
Residents with a $20 SPD Golf ID receive major discounts. Nonresidents must decide whether 27-hole variety, excellent bentgrass, and strong practice justify the premium.

Schaumburg feels expensive for a municipal course and inexpensive for the conditions it delivers.

What I Liked
Schaumburg’s conditioning and routing variety outperform normal municipal expectations. Repeat play reveals more value than a one-time visit.
- All three nines have identity. Tournament is demanding, Baer is more forgiving, and Player’s is shorter but strategic.
- Bentgrass covers tees, fairways, and greens. Recent reviews repeatedly praise firm, polished presentation.
- Rotation prevents repetition. Three 18-hole combinations create different pars, lengths, ratings, and closing stretches.
- The practice operation is excellent. TopTracer, grass and mat tees, two greens, a bunker, and private teaching areas are available.
- Winter does not end golf. Three indoor simulator bays preserve lessons, fitting, practice, and social rounds.
The club hosted U.S. Open and Illinois qualifying events. That history supports its championship claims better than marketing adjectives.
Schaumburg also participates in Audubon International’s golf sanctuary program.
What I Didn’t Like
The full nonresident weekend price is difficult to call municipal value. Add-ons make the headline rate less forgiving.
- Weekend golf with cart costs $105. That is before range balls, food, or a locker.
- Routing may change by day. You cannot assume your preferred two nines will form the 18-hole course.
- Online pricing starts with standard rates. Residents must ensure their eligibility is applied correctly.
- Monday starts are delayed. The course remains closed until 8 a.m. outside holidays.
A May 2026 visitor praised condition and staff while calling the $65 senior total expensive. That complaint captures Schaumburg’s central tension.
Dark or unusual flag colors have also frustrated some golfers from the fairway. It is a small usability issue on an otherwise polished course.
Schaumburg Golf Club Membership & Fees
Schaumburg uses daily rates, leagues, and a resident Golf ID instead of traditional membership dues. Residents receive the clearest value.
| 2026 Walking Rate | Standard | SPD Golf ID |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday 18 holes | $56 | $43 |
| Weekend or holiday 18 | $85 | $64 |
| Weekday after 3 p.m. | $47 | $37 |
| Weekend after 3 p.m. | $58 | $46 |
| Weekday nine holes | $36 | $27 |
| Weekend nine holes | $44 | $33.50 |
| Senior or junior weekday 18 | $45 | $37 |
| 18-hole cart | $20 | $20 |
A new Golf ID costs only $20, with $10 renewals. It is available to eligible Schaumburg Park District residents.
One discounted weekday round saves $13, nearly recovering the card immediately. A discounted weekend saves $21 before cart charges.
Men’s and women’s nine-hole leagues cost $340 for the 2026 season. A CDGA handicap is also available through the golf shop.
There is no initiation fee, food minimum, or unlimited annual membership advertised. Daily play remains the primary model.
Facilities & Amenities
Schaumburg provides a country-club-sized golf operation without private access restrictions. Practice and instruction are especially complete.
- Outdoor range: grass and mat rotation with TopTracer included
- Short game: two putting greens, pitching area, and practice bunker
- Academy: private, group, playing, fitting, video, and FlightScope sessions
- Simulators: three aboutGolf bays, open year-round at $40 hourly
- Golf shop: equipment, repair, apparel, lockers, and handicap support
- Clubhouse: prairie-style building with locker, banquet, meeting, and dining spaces
- Range pricing: $8, $14, or $18 for small through large buckets
Private lessons start at $50 for 30 minutes or $80 hourly. The instruction menu is unusually transparent for a public facility.
Best Time to Visit
May through June and September through October deliver the best combination of turf, temperature, and daylight.
July and August remain prime golf months but can bring heat, storms, and heavier weekend demand. An early weekday is the value sweet spot.
Spring opening depends on Chicago weather. Late autumn can offer firm conditions, but frost and leaf cover become real variables.
Winter golfers can use the indoor bays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Reserve ahead because only three simulators serve the facility.
Dress Code & Etiquette
Schaumburg’s dress code is moderate and practical. Men need a presentable shirt with sleeves, while women need a presentable shirt.
Tank tops, men’s sleeveless shirts, halter tops, tube tops, swimwear, and other unsuitable clothing are prohibited. Metal spikes are also banned.
Tee times require a credit card. Cancellations inside 24 hours and no-shows can be charged to that card.
The course expects golfers to accept responsibility for errant shots near surrounding property. Use caution on holes with residential exposure.

This club is a good fit if you live locally and can use the discounted Golf ID.

Verdict & Score
GCR Score: 4.4 / 5 – Recommended
Schaumburg combines 27-hole variety, excellent bentgrass, serious practice facilities, and public access. Its presentation competes with many private clubs.
Weekend pricing is the main drawback. Residents and weekday players receive a much clearer value.
Our review methodology rewards consistency and access. Schaumburg scores strongly on both.

Author Note
I rarely see municipal facilities combine three nines with this practice depth and presentation. Schaumburg earns its premium more often than not. Learn more on the David Luis author page.
